Euro 2024 Football

EURO 2024 will take place in Germany from 14 June to 14 July 2024.

This is the 17th European Football Championship.

The Germany team will play the opening match at Munich Football Arena on 14 June 2024. The final will be played at the Olympiastadion Berlin on 14 July 2024.

Of the 10 venues selected to host EURO 2024 matches, 9 stadiums were used for the 2006 World Cup. Munich Football Arena has already hosted matches from EURO 2020.

The draw for the final tournament took place in Hamburg on 2 December 2023.

For Euro 2024 you should prioritise public transport (train) over the car. Regarding your visit to Germany, we recommend coming by train.

ℹ️ Euro 2024 organisers aim to bring at least 70% of fans by public transport, which is deeply rooted in German football fans.

The vast majority of German fans travel to the ground by train throughout the season, so Deutsch Bahn is well used to managing fan flows by train.

🚆 UEFA has put in place 3 special train offers at extremely reduced or even free prices for ticket holders.

• The 36-Hour Pass : Local public transport and trains are free from 6am on matchday until 6pm the next day. Find out everything about this 36-hour pass below in "All local transport free".
  
• National trains at €29.99 : From a dedicated Euro page on the Deutsch Bahn website you can book a complete journey across Germany for €29.99. See all the information below in "National trains at €29.99". To buy your tickets, visit : DB Ticket Euro 2024
• Interrail Pass EURO 2024 : To travel with unlimited German trains, UEFA is collaborating with Interrail to create a dedicated pass for Euro 2024 ticket holders. The pass costs 25% less than a standard Interrail pass. All information below in "Interrail Pass EURO 2024".

🚘 For those coming by car, you have 2 options :

• Book a car park online in advance. The cost is €24 per match. There are no car parks for Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Leipzig. All information below to book in "Car parks dedicated to Euro 2024"
• We recommend you park your car away from the ground (at your hotel, in a park and ride, in a nearby village...) and travel to the stadium by local trains (local transport or German regional trains).

⚠️ To drive in many German cities, you need an environmental badge (Umweltplakette). Plan ahead and check the dedicated websites before you leave. All information below in "The environmental badge".

🚖 As for taxis, 4 ride-hailing services operate in Germany :

• Freenow is available in all Euro cities
• Bolt is available in all Euro cities except Leipzig. You can have regular taxis or electric scooters.
• Uber is available in 7 of the 10 Euro cities : Berlin, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart.
• Taxi.eu is available in all Euro cities

🎟️ To book your train tickets, you need to go through Deutsche Bahn(German railway company): DB Ticket Euro 2024

Germany is crisscrossed by numerous railway lines and some cities are major interchange hubs.

The main types of German trains to understand the offers:

• U-Bahn: urban metro systems in cities (underground)
• S-Bahn: local trains between major local cities (like RER in France)
• Regional Express (RE) & Regional Bahn (RB) & Interregio-Express (IRE): regional trains between major cities (like TER in France)
• Intercity (IC) & InterCity Express (ICE) & Eurocity (EC & ECE): national trains
  

For your information, there are several direct trains from France to Germany. For these trains crossing the border, compare prices on SNCF and Deutsche Bahn, there can be differences. The cross-border lines:

• From Paris there are direct trains to Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Freiburg and Munich. Along the route of these trains, stops at Karlsruhe or Mannheim also allow you to reach all of Germany very easily by train. EUROSTAR also offers direct trains to Düsseldorf and Cologne.
  
• From Marseille there is a direct train to Frankfurt. This train passes through Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Lyon, Chalon-sur-Saône, Besançon, Belfort, Mulhouse, Strasbourg, Baden-Baden, Karlsruhe and Mannheim.
• From Strasbourg you can pick up all the lines mentioned above. Otherwise, there is a Strasbourg - Offenburg line (25 minutes). From Offenburg many trains allow you to reach all of Germany (for example there are direct trains to Berlin).

❗What to know about train culture in Germany with Deutsche Bahn :

⏱️ Delays are frequent and "normal" -> always allow at least 15-20 minutes for a connection

⏫ Download the DB Navigator app to check delays, etc.

🔃 If you miss a train because of a previous train's delay, you can take another one to continue your journey

⚠️ Booking your seat on the train is optional but we recommend it for a more "comfortable" journey (and to avoid standing). A seat reservation costs €5.

🆓 All ticket holders for Euro 2024 matches benefit from free travel on all local public transport and regional trains.

Local transport is free for 36 hours, from 6am on match day to 6pm the following day.

🎟️ There is no need to book a ticket; simply use any local public transport or regional train.

If checked, you must show your "Euro 2024 Fan Pass" to prove you hold a match ticket for Euro 2024.

🚆 This free local transport therefore includes:

- All public transport in the 10 Euro 2024 host cities (buses, trams, U-Bahn, S-Bahn)

- Regional train operators around the 10 Euro 2024 host cities (RE, RB)

❌ National trains IC (InterCity), ICE (InterCity Express) and EC (EuroCity) are not included in this free pass

Deutsche Bahn, the German railway company, offers discounted train tickets specifically for Euro 2024 ticket holders.

💸 You can make any train journey across Germany to a Euro host city for €29.9.

The price for a complete journey (regardless of how many connections) is €29.9 in 2nd class, €39.9 in 1st class.

ℹ️ Ticket conditions:

- You must go through the dedicated EURO 2024 page on the Deutsche Bahn website for this fare to be offered: DB Ticket Euro 2024

- Maximum one return journey (2 train tickets) per match ticket you hold for EURO 2024.

- Train types covered are national services: IC (InterCity), ICE (InterCity Express) and EC (EuroCity) as well as regional trains

- Your journey destination must be a Euro host city

- This train ticket is non-refundable and non-exchangeable

- The journey must be completed entirely within Germany, no border crossing

- Regardless of the number of connections, the price is fixed

- The number of tickets at this price is limited

- If checked, you must present your ticket plus your "Euro 2024 Fan Pass" proving you hold tickets for EURO 2024

- This fare is only available between 12 June and 16 July 2024

- You can purchase your ticket at this price up to 2 days before travel for the group stage / 1 day before travel for the knockout stage

UEFA has partnered with Interrail to create a dedicated pass for the Euro.

The principle of an Interrail pass is to use trains unlimited according to the country and number of days you choose.

Info on the Interrail Euro 2024 Pass:

📆 Passes for 4, 5, 7, 10 or 15 days

💸 Price between £134 and £262 depending on the pass, that's 25% cheaper than traditional passes

🚆 With this pass you can use all German trains unlimited without mandatory reservation

🎟️ If checked on the train, you must present your Interrail pass and your "Euro 2024 Fan Pass" proving you hold tickets for Euro 2024

📆 This pass can only be activated between 9 June and 21 July 2024

Tips & tricks:

- You are only entitled to 2 days of travel in total including a return trip in your country of origin (i.e. a journey involving a border crossing).

- Booking only a seat on the train is highly recommended for the best travel experience. To do this, visit the Interrail website under "Seat Reservations" or from the Deutsch Bahn website when doing an advanced search by clicking on "Book seat only". Booking a seat only in Germany costs €5.

- Without a seat reservation you can sit anywhere on the train, provided there are seats available (some may travel standing if the train is full and they haven't reserved their seat).

Public car parks are dedicated to Euro 2024 and you can book them at a flat rate of €24 per match. To benefit from this offer, you must pre-book your parking space online.

The stadiums offering this option are those in:

🚨The stadiums in Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Leipzig will not offer parking

⚠️ To drive a car in many German cities, you must have an environmental sticker (Umwelt-plakette). Plan ahead and check the dedicated websites before you leave.

ℹ️ A website in French provides fairly comprehensive information about the system -> vignette-ecologique-allemande but it's not the cheapest option.



🎟️ The sticker can be purchased from an official seller: TÜV, DEKRA, GTÜ, FSP or KÜS.

Alternatively, the sticker can be ordered online from each city, here's the link for Berlin (the sticker will be valid for the entire country).

With online purchase, allow 7 to 14 days for delivery.



💸 The sticker costs €5 to €15 on site, €6 online.

The cities of Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Leipzig, Stuttgart and Munich require this green sticker to be displayed on your car (Umwelt-plakette 4).

🚘 Following previous matches of the French national team, the FFF partnered with Volkswagen to set up a carpooling platform for all France matches at Euro 2024.

Regional trains are free with your match ticket (see above), so there's an opportunity to find cheaper accommodation by looking at towns nearby.

💡 Spot a small town around the one where the stadium is located and study the local rail network carefully directly on the Deutsche Bahn website: check the towns served and timetables (make sure there are trains in the evening). Link to the Deutsche Bahn website: Deutsche Bahn

For example, for a match in Cologne / Dortmund / Düsseldorf / Gelsenkirchen, the entire VRR and VRS regional train network is free with your match ticket. You can book a hotel in a small town or village anywhere in the Ruhr region between Cologne and Dortmund.

🌙 There are many trains running late into the night and stadiums are designed to be reached by train. So aim for towns and villages accessible by metro and regional trains that run at night to reduce your accommodation budget.

⚠️ Be wary of prices that seem too good to be true – scams are bound to happen. Stay vigilant, compare prices and read all the terms and conditions carefully (cancellation, etc.).

For cities where France are playing, we've created a map showing all the stations served overnight by regional trains (free with your match ticket) to help you find cheaper accommodation.

Euro 2024 ticket sales took place in several phases, first by draw, then on a first-come, first-served basis. Sales ran from early December 2023 to mid-May 2024. There were over 30 million requests in the first phase, 20 million in the second. Getting tickets was extremely difficult.

Each country had 10,000 tickets per match reserved for its fans in the group stage. For France, sales were handled through official supporter associations and members of the Supporters' Club. 🔃 There is no official resale managed by UEFA. If you need to sell your ticket between individuals, use the "Transfer" option on the UEFA Mobile Tickets app.

🎟️ For knockout stage ticket sales to qualified countries: each match will go on sale the day after qualification. For France, priority will be given to supporter associations, then to Supporters' Club members (registered before 18/06), then to the general public (registered on lesbleus2024.fr before the tournament).

👤 You must log in to the app using the same UEFA account that purchased the tickets. Warning: Only one phone per connected account. You cannot log in to the same account from multiple phones.

• Personalise the ticket (add a name, surname, date of birth, passport/ID number). Once you do this, the ticket becomes personal to that individual.
• Transfer the ticket: you can enter the email address of the person you want to transfer the ticket to. They will need to download the app, log in with their account, and the ticket will appear in their app. WARNING: once a ticket is transferred, you cannot get it back.

✅ The ticket's QR code will only appear on matchday (usually 3 hours before kick-off).

🛜 Bluetooth on your phone must be enabled to enter the stadium. You then scan the QR code using the app.

Tips & tricks:

🔋 You must have plenty of battery on your phone because the ticket is only on the app (no paper format, no screenshots...). The Fan Pass required for free transport is also 100% digital on your phone (see below).

🔌 Remember to bring portable chargers to ensure your phone stays charged throughout your journey. Small portable chargers will be allowed in the stadium (no larger than a phone).

📶 Internet connection won't be required at the stadium for your tickets. You'll just need to have pre-loaded them on your phone beforehand.

The Fan Pass is your official Euro 2024 companion, allowing you to benefit from train offers, receive real-time UEFA information, find the stadium and activities...

All ticket holders for the Euro will receive their Fan Pass.

Each country has its own customs, here's what you need to know about Germany:

📍 Currency: the Euro

💶 Although contactless payment is very widespread in German stadiums, we still recommend having some cash on you. In everyday life, small shops often prefer cash payments.

💤 In Germany Sunday is sacred! Many shops are closed. Some even close as early as 5pm on Saturday.

🍺 It's customary to leave a tip at restaurants and bars if you're satisfied with the service

♻️ Remember to sort your waste and be aware that most bottles you buy in Germany are returnable.

🫧 Germans love anything fizzy (-Schorle): sparkling water, fizzy apple juice (Apfelschorle), even wine... To ask for still water, you need to specify "Still"

🌭 To enjoy a must-try sausage, ask for a "Wurst", sometimes topped with your choice of Zwiebeln (cooked onions) or Apfelmus (apple sauce). You'll be offered a "Bratwurst" (traditional grilled veal and pork sausage) or a "Bockwurst" closer to a knack simmered in water. There's also the "Weisswurst" (the white one) grilled and delicious.

Don't hesitate to try Currywurst (knack sliced into rounds in a slightly spicy sauce) served with "Pommes" 🍟 (chips!) pronounced -> pomeusss

🔌 The electrical outlets are the same as in France, so no need for an adapter
