Dortmund rewards fans who don't use their phones at the stadium!
Dortmund and Vodafone have launched a “Fan Mode” in the BVB app, with the aim of rewarding fans who use their phones the least during matches at the stadium.
A recent study found that two out of three spectators use their mobile phones during matches at the stadium. This is a habit that is becoming increasingly common.
To try to limit the impact of mobile phones on the atmosphere and passion in the stands, Borussia Dortmund has launched “Fan Mode” in partnership with Vodafone at Signal Iduna Park.
Rewards for fans who use their phones the least during matches.
The system works similarly to a phone’s airplane mode. Open the BVB app during the match and enable location services to confirm that you are at the stadium. You can then activate “Fan Mode” through the app, which locks your phone. Points are earned for every minute spent without unlocking it. You can use your phone during half-time before activating “Fan Mode” again.
BVB shirts and gift cards up for grabs from 24 October 2026.
The initiative is a collaboration with Vodafone, and the first match covered will be against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, 24 October 2026.
Fans who earn the most points will have the chance to win prizes, including signed BVB shirts and gift cards for the club shop.
The goal is clear: to preserve an irreplaceable experience.
