Stamford Bridge

Stamford Bridge has been home to Chelsea FC since its creation in 1905. Originally (1904), the Mears brothers acquired the land to create an arena for a new sport that had emerged in northern England and with which they had fallen in love: football. Since Fulham FC refused to play there, Chelsea FC was born.

The name "Stamford Bridge" is said to come from the merger of the names of two bridges "Sanford Bridge" (sand ford) and "Stanbridge" (stone bridge) and the stream they spanned "Stanford Creek".

Its nickname "Shed End" comes from the installation of a cover in the 1930s to protect greyhound racing. It became the name of one of the stands.
