For naming reasons, Estadio Azteca is known as Estadio Banorte since March 2025.
Its nickname is the "Coloso de Santa Ursula" because of its size and location in the suburb of the same name.
It is home to the America Mexico team.
It is the largest stadium in Latin America.

It is the first stadium in the world to have hosted two FIFA World Cup finals, the one won by Brazil's team with Pelé in 1970 and the one won by Argentina's team with Maradona in 1986. It has also hosted the 1968 Summer Olympics, the Copa Interamericana, the Copa Libertadores, as well as NFL international series matches… Concerts and other events are held there.

Estadio Azteca will host matches and the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. To comply with FIFA regulations, the stadium will be called Estadio Ciudad de Mexico during the World Cup.
In preparation for this event, the stadium is undergoing renovation and modernisation work.

It will reopen in March 2026 and will then feature more than 2200m² of LED screens among other new features.
